Silfab Solar to Resume Fort Mill Operations Following Compliance Notice

Silfab Solar

Silfab Solar submitted a 72-hour notice to the South Carolina Department of Environmental Services (SCDES) on Friday, signaling the resumption of commissioning activities and the transition to the next phase of solar cell production at its Fort Mill facility.

The notification was issued under the terms of a voluntary Compliance Agreement between the company and state regulators.

According to company officials, the move toward full operational capacity follows a review of the facility, operational procedures, and safety protocols conducted by an independent third-party engineering firm. The company stated that the step aligns with SCDES guidelines and reinforces its commitment to complying with local, state, and federal regulations.

“Resuming full operations supports domestic manufacturing, creates additional high-tech jobs in South Carolina, strengthens our nation’s energy security, and helps reduce reliance on foreign supply chains,” the company said in a statement, emphasizing that the safety of its more than 700 Fort Mill employees and the local community remains its highest priority.

Silfab Solar confirmed that state and York County officials will continue to have access to the site as commissioning resumes. Further operational updates will be made available to the public via the company’s regional website.
