It’s an old adage that truth is stranger than fiction. As one goes about his business, such a phrase might not come to the fore so readily. We may think of it at the back of our minds, but it isn’t always uppermost in our consciences. And then you get a story like this.
MyGender [sic] Dolls made the news not so long ago in, of course, a place like Minnesota. The dolls are the brain trust of researchers Dianne Berg and G. Nic Rider at the Eli Coleman Institute for Sexual and Gender Health at, naturally, the University of Minnesota. The madcap researchers came up with the idea of having dolls with removable genitalia, designed for children ages 4-10 who are gender-diverse. The duo got a $10,000 grant in 2023 for “innovation.” For now, there is only a waitlist, and the dolls aren’t ready for prime public time. The website contends that “MyGender Dolls are a first-of-their-kind therapeutic play approach designed for gender-diverse children ages 4-10.” We are assured that these dolls will only be used by people trained to use them…with four- to ten-year-olds who are gender-diverse.
This begs the question of how 4-to-10-year-olds know they are gender-diverse. An adult would have to have told them this, as no four-year-old will come up with this idea on his or her own. The only possible use for these dolls would be to groom children who have been confused by adults who have lost their sense of well-being and have confused young children about their biology.
Unfortunately, gender-diverse dolls aren’t the only crazy idea being floated about this summer. Enter the DSA, or the Democratic Socialists of America Party. Established in 1982, the DSA has never been a part of the Democrat Party but does run in the Democrat Party primaries. The association has always been a tenuous one until now. The Democrat Party has not only not distanced itself from the DSA but is now teaming up with it to elect certain candidates while adopting some of these loony ideas.
This is important because the DSA has some truly harebrained ideas. The DSA wishes to abolish the Electoral College. The Democrat Party has also called for this. The DSA want to abolish ICE and the police, and any sort of border policy, points that the Democrat Party endorsed fully under Biden with the help of the fraudulent Black Lives Matter group. The DSA also called for the abolition of the presidency and the Supreme Court, with an executive and judiciary chosen by Congress and subordinate to it. The Democrat Party has called for an enlargement of the Supreme Court to 13 justices. DSA has also called for publicly funding all elections and removing lobbyists and corporate money, something the Supreme Court, in an earlier ruling a few years back, struck down as unconstitutional. Perhaps this is why the DSA wants to do away with the Supreme Court?
In addition to a draconian Green Platform infused with massive federal funding, the DSA has also called for Medicare for all, free college tuition, universal rent control, and a federally funded 32-hour work week but with no diminution in annual salaries. The Democrat Party is on record with some of these ideas. In addition to defunding the Department of War and closing all military bases, it also calls for the end of economic sanctions against Cuba, Iran, and Venezuela and supporting pro-Palestinian initiatives while slashing funding to Israel. Again, the Democrat Party has endorsed these ideas as well. Oh, and capitalism under the DSA will vanish in place of socialism.
With respect to the MyGender sort of views, the DSA strongly supports LGBTQ+ views and opposes any book restrictions, bathroom bans, restrictions on gender-affirming care, and any transgender exclusions from any sports. All health care will pay for any transitioning medical care, infusing public school curricula with positive LGBTQ+ teaching, and the granting of any unions the same protection granted to heterosexual relationships. Whether these relationships are permanent or temporary. Sadly, the Democrat Party is on record already supporting most of these views.
The DSA is gaining ground all over the country with these animadversions. While it is still too weak to mount an overall takeover of the government, socialist candidates in Seattle, New York City, Portland and elsewhere only serve to show that the proverbial nose of the camel is already under the Democrat Party’s tent. Furthermore, the Democrat Party refuses, except in rare cases, to push the DSA away. As valets du pouvoir, as obsequious seekers of power, the Democrat Party is eager to win again no matter what the cost. When well-known democrats take on the DSA—such as James Carville, John Fetterman, or Bill Maher—they are quickly censured by both the DSA and the Democrat Party.
All of this to say that when voting this year, voters need to be aware that any vote for anyone in the Democrat Party is now a vote for some or all of these anserine, stupid ideas. Democrats used to be able, via escamatoge, legerdemain, sleight of hand, to position themselves as centrists. Unfortunately, however true that may have been a decade ago, it is no longer. Unless and until the Democrat Party shuns the DSA, they will be associated with these ideas. The scumble is off the Democrat Party, and now the party’s true ideas are front and center. Ideas that may have seemed radical and silly a few years ago are now the platform of a growing part of the Democrat Party.

It would be one thing if these ideas had not already failed in countries the world over. But those failures are not enough to dissuade a number of Millennials and other young people from flocking to a party that will dismantle the United States if left unchecked.
It isn’t that our country is perfect the way it is. Far from it.
“Democracy is the worst form of Government,” said Churchill in 1947, “except for all those others forms that have been tried.”
What was true then is true now. A democratic Republic is messy and difficult. But we have managed for 250 years better than any other country. Now is not the time to jettison it, not for new ideas, or untried ones, but for ones that have been tried and failed…miserably.
