It was a banner week for Fort Mill High School athletics as the Yellow Jackets secured several critical region victories, highlighted by dominant showings on the soccer pitch and a steady rise in the state lacrosse rankings.
Soccer: Offensive Explosion
The Fort Mill girls’ varsity soccer team extended its winning streak with a pair of clinical shutouts. On Tuesday, March 17, the Yellow Jackets dismantled Rock Hill High School 6-0. The momentum carried into Friday night, March 20, when Fort Mill repeated the scoreline with another 6-0 victory over Northwestern High School. Emerson Shelton was named player of the match for her efforts in the Rock Hill rout.
The boys’ varsity squad was equally impressive, finding the back of the net 15 times over two games. After a massive 11-1 victory against Rock Hill on March 17, the Jackets took down Northwestern 4-1 on Friday. Cullen Patterson earned player of the match honors as the team improved its standing in the competitive AAAAA landscape.
Lacrosse: Staying Hot
The boys’ varsity lacrosse team continued its ascent, moving up to No. 7 in the South Carolina state rankings. The Jackets secured a hard-fought 7-5 win over Boiling Springs on March 17 before traveling to Indian Land on March 19, where they secured a 18-2 blowout.
The JV boys’ team also mirrored this success, posting a 16-2 win over Boiling Springs and an 11-3 victory against Nation Ford earlier in the week.
Baseball and Softball: Regional Battles
On the diamond, the varsity baseball team faced a tough defensive struggle against Clover on March 20, falling 3-2 in a game dominated by pitching. The Jackets look to bounce back tonight as they travel to Rock Hill for a 7:15 p.m. first pitch.
The varsity softball team split their recent outings, including a narrow loss to A.C. Flora on March 14, but returned to conference play this week. The Yellow Jackets host Chester High School tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the FMHS Softball Field, looking to gain ground in the region standings.
