A dramatic, late-night rescue unfolded in uptown Charlotte early Tuesday morning after a man found himself dangling from a parachute, clinging to the side of a skyscraper. Charlotte firefighters were called to Museum Towers at 525 S. Church Street around 1 a.m. to find a man, later identified as 31-year-old Diego Adame, suspended approximately 100 feet in the air, his parachute tangled against the building’s facade.
The daring rescue, performed in the darkness, required the expertise of the Charlotte Fire Department’s high-angle rope team. Firefighters carefully ascended to the rooftop and then rappelled down to Adame, who was reportedly uninjured but shaken. The delicate operation brought Adame safely to the roof.
While the origin of Adame’s jump remains under investigation he may have launched from a nearby building. Museum Towers is a 42-story apartment building in Uptown Charlotte, North Carolina. The building is 447 feet tall.
Adame has been charged with misdemeanor first-degree trespassing, the investigation is ongoing.
