Democratic nominee challenges Graham to debate, previews competitive general election battle ahead
CHARLESTON, S.C. — With the Republican runoff decided, South Carolina’s general election for U.S. Senate is officially underway. Democratic nominee Dr. Annie Andrews released the following statement, challenging her Republican opponent to meet her on the debate stage and make the case directly to voters:

“Tonight, Republicans nominated a candidate who was appointed to this seat because of her last name and elevated by Donald Trump’s endorsement and political machine. But no appointment, endorsement, or family connection entitles anyone to six years in the United States Senate. This seat belongs to the people of South Carolina.
“Now Senator Graham must answer to them. I am renewing my challenge tonight: Join me for at least three televised debates across South Carolina and explain how you will lower costs, protect health care, and keep our rural hospitals open. I’ll be there. Will she?”
Dr. Andrews previously challenged both Republican runoff candidates to a series of at least three televised, in-studio debates beginning in September. She has asked the Republican nominee to accept the challenge by Thursday, August 27. The full debate invitation is available upon request.
