The Truist Championship will become part of the PGA TOUR Championship Series beginning in 2028, extending the tournament’s more than two-decade history in the Charlotte area.
The new PGA TOUR Championship Series will feature the TOUR’s top performers competing head-to-head throughout the season. The series is expected to include approximately 23 to 24 events, including THE PLAYERS Championship, major championships, postseason competitions and international team events such as the Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup. The season is expected to run from February through August.
A complete 2028 PGA TOUR schedule will be announced at a later date.
The Truist Championship is currently in its 24th year as a PGA TOUR event and its third year as a Signature Event. The tournament will return to Quail Hollow Club May 10-16, 2027.
The Charlotte-area tournament has featured some of golf’s biggest names among its past champions, including Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Max Homa and Rickie Fowler.
Norway’s Kristoffer Reitan won the 2026 Truist Championship, earning his first PGA TOUR victory with a two-shot win over Fowler and Nicolai Hojgaard.
The tournament’s move into the new Championship Series will continue its longstanding relationship with Quail Hollow Club, the PGA TOUR and the Charlotte community while placing the event among the TOUR’s premier competitions beginning in 2028.
