Charlotte Ranked Second Worst in U.S. for Daily Commute

If you’re one of the over 577,000 Charlotte commuters averaging 28 minutes each way, you know Queen City traffic is tough. Charlotte recently ranked No. 2 on Forbes’ list of the worst commutes in the country, just behind Nashville. Heavy congestion clogs major routes like I-85, I-77, and I-485, adding stress to daily routines.

Forbes attributed Nashville’s top ranking to rapid population growth—something Charlotte is experiencing as well. Aggressive drivers, frequent slowdowns, and risky road conditions only add to the challenges. North Carolina roads are a factor, with almost one-third rated in poor or mediocre condition by a National Transportation Research Non-Profit report.

Here’s how the hardest commutes stack up:

  1. Nashville, TN
  2. Charlotte, NC
  3. Jacksonville, FL
  4. Houston, TX
  5. Washington, DC
  6. New York, NY
  7. Boston, MA
  8. Los Angeles, CA
  9. Dallas, TX
  10. Fort Worth, TX

For many, the commute has become the most grueling part of the day. With congested roads and a growing population, it’s no wonder Charlotte area drivers are feeling the pressure.
