The buzz around Fort Mill’s retail scene just got louder as shovels hit the dirt Tuesday for the long-awaited Catawba Ridge Market, a 45-acre development set to transform the corner of Fort Mill Parkway and South Dobys Bridge Road. Anchored by a brand-new, 61,000-square-foot Harris Teeter, the project promises to bring a significant boost in shopping and dining options to this rapidly growing area.
Catawba Ridge Market represents a significant investment in the community. “This is a meaningful milestone for our team,” said George Dewey, president and CEO of Charlotte-based developer Aston. “We’ve developed projects up and down the East Coast, but doing something this close to home, in a community like Fort Mill, is especially rewarding.”
What Shoppers Can Expect Catawba Ridge Market is slated to feature:
- A full-service Harris Teeter grocery store, offering modern amenities such as a wide selection of fresh, locally sourced produce and expanded departments.
- A 13-unit retail building with storefronts ranging from 1,200 to over 2,500 square feet, promising a diverse mix of shops and services.
- Eight outparcel lots, sized from 0.5 to over 2 acres, suitable for a variety of restaurants and service-oriented businesses.
- A new internal access road designed to optimize traffic flow within the developing retail center.
While Aston declined to disclose the project’s total cost, the eagerly anticipated Harris Teeter is expected to open its doors by spring 2027, with other retailers likely to follow suit around the same time.
Community Leaders Welcome Development Fort Mill Mayor Gwen Savage joined local elected officials, town staff, and company representatives at Tuesday’s groundbreaking ceremony. “This project checks all the boxes for what we aim to achieve — managed growth, quality development, and service to our residents,” she stated. “We’re thrilled to welcome Aston and Harris Teeter to Fort Mill, bringing with them not just new shopping opportunities but also potential job creation.”
Mayor Savage commended the town staff for their collaborative efforts with the developers and emphasized the importance of this long-term investment. “We want foundational businesses that stay and serve our community for years to come,” she added.
Harris Teeter’s Long-Standing Commitment to the Region Dana Robinson, representing Harris Teeter, underscored the grocer’s 65-year history and its established 20-year presence in Fort Mill. “At Harris Teeter, every decision we make is centered around our customers,” she said. “This new location will offer a fresh, modern shopping experience while maintaining the friendly faces and service our customers have come to expect.”
Robinson also highlighted Harris Teeter’s significant community contributions, noting that the company annually donates over $20 million in food and funds to local food banks, schools, and youth sports teams. “We are proud to be the local grocery retailer of the Carolinas — and we’re thrilled to expand our commitment to the Fort Mill community.”
Looking Ahead With site work now underway, construction on Catawba Ridge Market is expected to continue throughout 2026. The anticipated spring 2027 opening of Harris Teeter marks a key milestone for the development, promising to bring expanded grocery, dining, and shopping options to one of the fastest-growing areas in York County. As construction progresses, Catawba Ridge Market promises to become a vibrant hub, further enhancing the quality of life and commercial landscape of this thriving Fort Mill community.
