The Tega Cay Lions Club announced Elaine Siegel is the Tega Cay Citizen of the year.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Elaine Siegel, who has been bestowed with the prestigious title of Citizen of the Year. Elaine’s unwavering dedication to volunteering has made a profound impact on our community, particularly through her involvement with the Humane Society of York County (HSYC) since 2008.
Residing in Tega Cay since 1987, Elaine, along with her husband Vic, has nurtured their two children in this vibrant community. Her altruistic spirit led her to engage in various volunteering endeavors, including her role as a valuable member of the Newcomers Club, a devoted Girl Scout leader, an active participant on the Tega Cay Tennis Club board, and a commendable three-year presidency of the Gardening on the Cay club, where she remains an esteemed member.
A testament to her leadership and passion for animal welfare, Elaine played a pivotal role in co-chairing the establishment of the Pawsibilities Thrift Shop in 2008, which continues to provide vital support to the HSYC. She has diligently managed the shop, served as the co-manager, and since 2010, organized the Humane Society of York County Christmas Store, expanding its operations to include a Halloween Boutique just last year. Notably, the store raised an impressive $126,000 for the HSYC rescue in 2021. Throughout the years, Elaine’s remarkable efforts have drawn numerous volunteers to support the thrift shop, HSYC Christmas Store, and her various community initiatives.
Moreover, Elaine’s compassionate nature extends to fostering kittens until they reach an age suitable for adoption, ensuring they find their loving “furever” homes through the HSYC rescue.
Many of you may be familiar with the splendid Christmas light display adorning Elaine and Vic’s yard, which prominently features the HSYC theme and collects donations. Following Vic’s recent passing, Elaine has gracefully passed on the tradition to her neighbor, who will continue this cherished display.
Additionally, Elaine assumes the role of co-chair for the annual Christmas Stocking Project, a collaborative effort between Gardening on The Cay and HSYC. This heartwarming initiative involves filling stockings for 300 children from five local charities. During Easter, she also co-chairs the Easter Basket Project, ensuring the children from these charities receive joyous Easter baskets.
Elaine Siegel serves as an extraordinary inspiration to us all, and the Tega Cay Lions proudly honor her remarkable contributions to our community.
