South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster has announced 25 appointments to the Governor’s Conservation Commission, bringing together members from the private and academic sectors to help guide the state’s conservation and preservation efforts.
The appointees will serve alongside ex officio members, including South Carolina Department of Natural Resources Director Tom Mullikin, Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Director Duane Parrish, Chief Resilience Officer Ben Duncan and State Forester Scott Phillips.
Created through Executive Order 2026-24, the commission will advise the governor and executive branch on conservation strategies, promote coordination among state and local agencies, and help local governments establish conservation goals.
The commission will also work to increase public awareness of South Carolina’s history and culture, identify potential funding sources and encourage partnerships among government agencies, businesses, academic institutions and nonprofit organizations.
The appointments come as South Carolina continues to address growth and development alongside efforts to preserve natural resources and the state’s cultural heritage.
The commission is intended to provide guidance and coordination among public and private stakeholders as the state develops long-term conservation and preservation priorities.
