The Winthrop men’s soccer team will face its toughest test of the season Tuesday when the Eagles travel to No. 20 UNC Wilmington for a nonconference matchup.
The game is scheduled for 6 p.m. at UNCW Soccer Stadium in Wilmington, North Carolina.
Winthrop enters the contest with a 5-4-1 overall record and a 2-1 mark in Big South Conference play. The Eagles are coming off a 4-0 victory over Presbyterian, highlighted by Jorge Perez’s hat trick during a four-goal second half.
UNC Wilmington is 7-2-1 overall and 4-0 in the Coastal Athletic Association. The Seahawks lead the all-time series 4-2, including a 2-0 victory in the teams’ last meeting in 2016. Winthrop’s most recent win against UNCW came in 2014, when the Eagles posted a 2-1 road victory.
The matchup marks Winthrop’s first nonconference road game against a nationally ranked opponent since a 2024 meeting at No. 24 NC State. The Eagles have an all-time record of 6-31-1 against ranked opponents.
