Falcons Break the Curse: Nation Ford Secures First Victory of the Season in Electric Battle Against Lake Wylie

Nation Ford's Ben Falkner (#2) led his team to their first victory of the season tonight over Lake Wylie.

There is a distinct, heavy silence that accompanies a six-game skid — a weight that settles deep in the shoulders of teenage athletes and tests the resolve of even the most battle-hardened coaching staffs. For Nation Ford, the opening month and a half of the season felt like a relentless trial, enduring a gauntlet of opponents while searching desperately for a spark to turn the tide.

Friday night, under the bright autumn lights, that spark finally caught fire.

Behind a poise-driven performance from quarterback Ben Falkner and a flurry of game-changing defensive strikes, Nation Ford exorcised their early-season demons, securing a hard-fought 42-24 victory over Lake Wylie to notch their first win of the campaign.

The evening began with the familiar tension of a squad trying to break a slump. Lake Wylie struck first, capping an opening drive with a 1-yard touchdown plunge to take a quick 7-0 lead. But where earlier weeks might have seen the Falcons fold, Friday night showcased a team forged through adversity.

Lake Wylie’s Landon Robinson (#2) kept his team in contention early on, but Nation Ford proved too much in the end.

Nation Ford answered back with force in the second quarter, engineering a defensive and offensive takeover that flipped the momentum entirely. After punching in a rushing touchdown to trim the deficit to 7-6, Falkner took complete command under center. The senior signal-caller dropped back and dropped a dime to Asher Beck for a 15-yard scoring pass, followed by a sharp two-point conversion throw to JD Edley to surge ahead 21-7.

Moments later, the defense delivered the knockout blow of the half. Reading the Lake Wylie quarterback’s eyes, the Falcons intercepted a pass and returned it 15 yards to the house — a electrifying pick-six that sent the visiting sideline into a frenzy and pushed the advantage to 28-7. By the time Lake Wylie tacked on a late field goal before the break, the Falcons carried a commanding 28-10 lead into the locker room.

Yet, a winless season makes every step toward the finish line feel like a mountain climb.

Lake Wylie mounted a furious second-half rally, striking through the air in the third quarter to pull within five points at 28-23. With momentum teetering, Falkner once again dialed up the big play, connecting with Beck on a magnificent 33-yard touchdown strike to restore breathing room at 35-23.

Lake Wylie continued to push down the stretch, narrowing the margin to 35-24 late in the fourth quarter. But Nation Ford refused to let this one slip away. With the game on the line, running back Ethan Childs put the final exclamation point on the evening, taking a handoff and exploding through the seam for a jaw-dropping 45-yard touchdown run to slam the door shut.

The final whistle triggered a cathartic celebration. The win elevates Nation Ford to 1-6 overall and 1-2 in 4A-Region 3 play — a record that hardly captures the resilience forged over the past seven weeks.

The road ahead remains demanding. Next up for Nation Ford is a tough road test against region rival Catawba Ridge (3-3, 1-1), who enter off a dominant 50-26 win over York. But for one night in October, the drought is over, the burden is lifted, and the Falcons finally know the sweet taste of victory.
