Tega Cay Fire Chief Glyn Hasty has been sworn in as president of the South Carolina State Association of Fire Chiefs, putting the head of Tega Cay’s department in charge of the statewide organization for fire service leaders.
Hasty moved up from the post of first vice president, according to the association’s website. The swearing in took place during the association’s 82nd Annual Fire Leadership South Carolina conference, held Sept. 21 to 23, 2026, at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Myrtle Beach Oceanfront Resort.
About the Association
The association’s stated mission is to give volunteer and career fire service managers across South Carolina, in both public and private departments, information, education, services and representation that advance their professionalism and capabilities. It also works with other fire service associations around the state on leadership education.
Hasty is not the only chief from the area in the group’s leadership. The executive committee roster lists Indian Land Fire District Chief Greg Nicholson as second vice president and Lancaster City Fire Department Chief Justin McLellan as South Carolina state director for the Southeastern Association of Fire Chiefs. McLellan previously served as the association’s president.
Hasty’s Background
Hasty became Tega Cay’s fire chief in April 2019 with 37 years of experience in fire, rescue, emergency medical services and emergency management in both volunteer and career roles, according to his city biography. Before coming to Tega Cay, he retired as a battalion chief with the Charlotte Fire Department, where he served at Charlotte Douglas International Airport.
He earned an associate degree in fire protection technology and a bachelor’s degree in disaster and emergency management from Western Carolina University. His credentials include Fire Officer 3 certification, National Registry Emergency Medical Technician certification and designation as a South Carolina Certified Emergency Manager.
