Eagles Narrowly Fall to Radford On the Road

Radford, Va. – Winthrop women’s soccer suffered a narrow 2-1 loss to Radford on the road, falling to 0-2 in conference play. Cordelia McIntosh scored a late goal for the Eagles in the 77th minute, her first of the season.

• Radford pressured early, with Mia Ruffalo saving a Lilly Clayton shot at 2:13 before Katie Purnell scored at 2:54, and Clayton added another at 5:37 to put Radford ahead 2-0.
• The Eagles responded with two shots in the next four minutes, as Monssi Avila-Gutierrez hit the top woodwork at 8:40 and Lila Bowers sent an attempt high at 9:56.
• The Eagles continued to create chances, forcing saves on shots by Amalie Steen, Cordelia McIntosh, Avila-Gutierrez, and Bowers, but Radford maintained the 2-0 lead through halftime.
• Radford created early second-half pressure, with Ruffalo saving Ava Kertgate’s shot at 53:24 before Ezrah Rubabaza missed left at 57:22.
• The Eagles built a late push with four corner kicks from 72:25 to 77:35, then McIntosh scored at 77:55 off assists from Bowers and Avila-Gutierrez to make it 2-1.
• Ruffalo added another save on Caitlyn Nottingham at 79:29, and the Eagles generated late shots from McIntosh, Cameron Celce, and Steen before the match ended with Radford ahead 2-1.
