Rob Tucker and Thomas Hyslip posted a net 102 on Saturday to take the Flight 1 lead after the opening round of the Tega Cay Men’s Golf Association Member Member tournament at Tega Cay Golf Club.
Forty six teams are entered in the two day event, split evenly between two flights of 23. Saturday sent every team through two different nine hole formats, one on the Carolina Pines nine and one on the Grand View nine, with a net triple bogey maximum on every hole in both.
The day opened on Carolina Pines with alternate shot, played at 50 percent of each partner’s handicap combined. Teams picked which player would tee off on odd and even holes, then alternated shots until the ball was holed, turning in a single net score. The Grand View nine used a shamble at 65 percent handicap. Both partners hit tee shots, the team chose the better one, and each player then finished the hole with his own ball for a net score. Teams counted two net scores on those nine holes, and each player’s drive had to be used at least twice.
Flight 1
Tucker and Hyslip were 1 over on the alternate shot nine with a net 37, then separated from the field on Grand View with a net 65, 7 under and the low shamble score of the day in either flight. Their two round total of 6 under puts them two clear of Doug McGowan and Tom McGrath, who matched a net 36 in alternate shot with a 68 in the shamble for 104.
Seth Lockman and Keith Murphy sit third at 107, and John Daly and Clinton Daly are fourth at 108 after recovering from a 40 on the opening nine with a 68 shamble.
The middle of the flight is crowded. Six teams share 14th place at 113, and only 11 shots separate second from 19th.

The final round keeps both nines and changes both formats. Carolina Pines will play as best ball at 100 percent handicap for nine holes, with teams counting one net score per hole. Grand View will play as both ball, also at 100 percent handicap, with teams required to count both partners’ net scores. The net triple bogey maximum carries over.
