Jim Jordan to Headline Wes Climer Fundraising Luncheon in Tega Cay

U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan, the Ohio Republican who chairs the House Judiciary Committee, will appear in Tega Cay on July 31 at a luncheon hosted by state Sen. Wes Climer, the Republican nominee for South Carolina’s 5th Congressional District.

The event, billed by the campaign as The Fight for America’s Future Leadership Luncheon, is scheduled from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Glennon Center in Tega Cay. Tickets are being sold through Climer’s campaign website, and the campaign said seating is limited.

Climer announced the appearance in a post on his campaign Facebook page, calling Jordan one of the strongest conservative voices in the country.

“Jim has spent his career standing up to Washington bureaucrats, defending the Constitution, fighting for government accountability, and never backing down from the tough battles,” Climer wrote. “It’s an honor to host him here in South Carolina for what will be a great conversation about the future of our country and the work still ahead.”

A national name in a local room

Jordan has represented Ohio’s 4th Congressional District since 2007 and was a founding member of the House Freedom Caucus. As chairman of the Judiciary Committee, he oversees the panel with jurisdiction over the Justice Department, the FBI, immigration enforcement and federal courts. Campaign materials for the luncheon describe the program as focused on constitutional government, free speech, congressional oversight and what the campaign calls preserving the American Dream.

For Tega Cay, a city of roughly 12,000 on the Catawba River, the visit puts one of the more recognizable figures in national Republican politics inside a municipal community center on Molokai Drive. The Philip T. Glennon Community Center, the city facility the campaign refers to as the Glennon Center, sits beside the Tega Cay Golf Club and is regularly rented for weddings, banquets and nonprofit fundraisers.

Where the 5th District race stands

Climer, a Rock Hill financial adviser, has held Senate District 15 in York County since November 2016 and previously chaired the York County Republican Party. He entered the congressional race after U.S. Rep. Ralph Norman announced a run for governor rather than reelection, and he drew no opposition in the June 9 Republican primary.

The seat covers 10 counties along the North Carolina border, anchored by the Charlotte suburbs in York and Lancaster counties and stretching west toward Spartanburg County and south into Sumter County. Norman won the district by more than 20 points in 2024, and it is widely rated as safely Republican.

On the general election ballot Nov. 3, Climer will face Democrat Mallory Dittmer of Fort Mill, who defeated Andrew Clough with 56 percent of the vote in the June 9 Democratic primary, and Forward Party candidate Andy Kaplan.

Climer submitted an irrevocable resignation from his state Senate seat in June, effective Nov. 3. The move triggered a special election for Senate District 15 that will run concurrent with the general election, allowing him to remain in office until Election Day while sparing York County the cost of a separate special election.
