Lisa Ann (Plarre) Griffith, born June 23, 1964, at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Passaic, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2026, at Atrium Health, surrounded by her loving parents George and Paula, brothers David and Eric, Rob and other dear friends.
Lisa grew up in Franklin Lakes, New Jersey, where she attended elementary school and later graduated from Ramapo High School. Even as a young woman, Lisa’s compassionate nature was evident. During her high school years, she worked as an aide for children with special needs and became a certified lifeguard and swimming instructor, teaching countless children to swim, including many in her family’s own backyard pool.
She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Ohio Wesleyan University, where she was a proud member of the Tri Delta Sorority. Driven by her passion for helping children, Lisa continued her education at New York University, earning a Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy with a specialization in Pediatrics. Her love for both people and animals led her to become certified in large-animal massage therapy, where she developed a special friendship with a horse named Folgers.
Lisa eventually made her home in Matthews, North Carolina, where she worked as an occupational therapist at Carolina Rehab for thirteen years before serving in various therapy clinics. In 2008, inspired by her belief that “a child cannot be treated in a windowless cubicle,” she founded her own therapy practice. Lisa took therapy beyond traditional walls, helping children grow and heal through outdoor experiences in parks, where they hiked, sang, explored nature, and built confidence. Her beloved therapy dogs, Shelby and later Marley, became cherished companions and sources of comfort for the children she served.
Later, Lisa moved to Fort Mill, South Carolina, where she created a therapy space within her home. There she continued to touch the lives of countless children and families, forming deep and lasting bonds. She often brought families together for outdoor activities, fostering not only growth and healing but also friendship and community.
Lisa embraced life with boundless enthusiasm and joy. She loved drawing, gardening, and rock climbing, always creating meaningful connections wherever she went. She was known for her warm smile, welcoming spirit, and ability to make everyone feel seen and valued. One friend remarked that they had never seen Lisa without a big, welcoming smile.
A true free spirit, Lisa lived life fully and encouraged others to do the same. Her home reflected that free spirit, deep faith in God, and the love she held for the children and families she served throughout her life.
A celebration of Lisa’s life will be held on August 21st at Lake Wylie/Ebeneezer Park 4490 Boatshore Rd. Rock Hill, SC 29732 from 4-8pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a local animal shelter of your choice. Another celebration of Lisa’s life will be held in New Jersey. Details will follow.
Lisa’s legacy is one of compassion, joy, adventure, faith, and unconditional love. She brought light into every room she entered and left an enduring impact on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Though our hearts are broken by her loss, we are profoundly grateful for the gift of her life. Lisa will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever carried in our hearts.
