The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) announced that two major intersections near Interstate 77 will completely close for a week to accommodate ongoing construction on the new interstate overpass.
Beginning Sunday, June 21, crews will shut down both the Highway 160 at Market Street intersection and the Highway 160 at Munn Road intersection.
SCDOT officials confirmed that the closures are expected to last exactly one week, with roads scheduled to reopen the following Sunday, conditions permitting. The closures are a necessary step in the multi-phase overpass project aimed at easing long-term traffic congestion in the area.
To help drivers bypass the construction zones, SCDOT has established official detour routes. Motorists are advised to plan for extra travel time, especially during peak morning and evening commute hours.
-
Munn Road Closure Detour: Drivers who normally use the Highway 160 and Munn Road intersection should utilize Harris Road and Highway 21 to navigate around the construction.
-
Market Street Closure Detour: Those impacted by the Highway 160 and Market Street closure will be rerouted via Assembly Drive.
Local businesses in the immediate areas will remain accessible, though you may need to utilize the designated detour routes to reach your destination.
