Team Zondervan leads Team Eberle 7 points to 5 after the opening day of the 2026 Tega Cay Cup, with 24 points still up for grabs when individual match play begins Sunday.
The two day Ryder Cup style competition features the top 24 finishers from the 2025 Tega Cay Men’s Golf Association season, with qualification determined by cumulative points earned through tournament play. Saturday’s slate consisted of six best ball matches, with each match worth 2 points and a tied match worth 1 point to each side.
Bob Auman and Tim Wyatt opened the scoring with a 3&2 victory over Jeff Roesler and Neil Kelker in Match 1. Bruce Fonte and Kenny Hall took Match 2 with a 2 up win over John Van Vranken and Ron Birmingham. Matt Bowman and Jim Mowery posted the most lopsided result of the day, defeating Andy Zondervan and Brandon Barnes 5&4 in Match 3.
Match 4 was the only halved contest of the afternoon, with Randall Phillips and Dale Eberle splitting the points against Gary Anderson and Brandon Fender. Mike Clyburn and Greg Kniska closed out Tom McGarth and Chris Radu 2 up in Match 5, and Larry Harley and Paul Liles secured the final point of the day with a 4&3 win over Eric Thompson and Dave Morgan in Match 6.
Sunday’s twelve singles matches will decide the cup. With every match worth 2 points and ties worth 1 point per side, the full 24 point allotment remains in play. Team Zondervan needs 12 points on Sunday to clinch outright, while Team Eberle must claim 14 to complete the comeback. A 13 to 11 split in favor of Team Eberle would leave the cup tied at 18.
