Fort Mill Overpowers Nation Ford with Second-Half Surge; Lacrosse Rivalry Headlines Today

A dominant second-half performance on the pitch and a gritty victory on the diamond highlighted Tuesday’s rivalry series between the Fort Mill Yellow Jackets and the Nation Ford Falcons.

Tuesday Night Recap

Boys Varsity Soccer: Fort Mill 3, Nation Ford 0

The Yellow Jackets turned a scoreless stalemate into a decisive victory by netting three goals after the intermission. The win moves Fort Mill to 6-4 overall and 3-3 in Region 3-5A play, while the Falcons slip to 5-9.

The opening half was a balanced affair, with Nation Ford controlling the early tempo and earning an initial corner kick just two minutes in. Fort Mill eventually found their rhythm, testing Falcons goalkeeper Alex Schifano multiple times, but Schifano’s steady hands kept the game level. At the other end, Jackets keeper Cullen Patterson denied the Falcons’ best opportunity at the 29-minute mark.

Everything changed less than a minute into the second half. Carter Eppes broke the deadlock just 56 seconds after the whistle, firing a breakaway shot into the top right corner. The Jackets maintained their aggressive pace, eventually doubling their lead in the 62nd minute when Andrew Kowalski tucked a low shot into the bottom right of the net. Despite some physical play and late pressure from the Falcons, Eppes iced the game in the 75th minute with his second breakaway goal of the night.

Varsity Softball: Fort Mill 5, Nation Ford 3

The Yellow Jackets showcased their resilience at home, fending off the Falcons in a 5-3 win. The victory serves as redemption for Fort Mill, who had struggled against their crosstown rivals in previous weeks. Sharp pitching and timely hitting allowed the Jackets to maintain a slim lead through the final frames, evening their recent record against Nation Ford.

Girls Varsity Soccer: Nation Ford 1, Fort Mill 0

In a defensive battle where every inch of grass was contested, the Yellow Jackets fell 1-0 on the road. Fort Mill’s backline played nearly flawless soccer, but a single lapse allowed the Falcons to find the net. Despite several late-game pushes and set-piece opportunities, the Jackets were unable to find the equalizer.
