Gamecocks Blow Out Chanticleers 51-7 on Senior Day

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina Gamecocks delivered their most commanding performance of the season Saturday, dismantling the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers 51-7 in an in-state nonconference matchup at Williams-Brice Stadium.

South Carolina (4-7, 1-7 SEC) dominated every statistical category, racking up 579 total yards of offense while suffocating the Chanticleers’ attack, holding Coastal Carolina (6-5, 5-2 Sun Belt) to just 212 total yards. The Gamecocks’ rushing attack was particularly effective, gaining 277 yards at a clip of 7.1 yards per carry.

The scoring explosion began immediately. On the first play from scrimmage, South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers connected with Jayden Sellers for a 75-yard touchdown strike just 14 seconds into the contest.

South Carolina continued its relentless scoring through the first half. The elder Sellers found the end zone twice on the ground with runs of 2 and 5 yards. Running back Brandy Hunt also added a 1-yard rushing touchdown as the Gamecocks built an insurmountable 37-0 halftime lead. Kicker William Joyce capped the first-half scoring with a 47-yard field goal just before the break.

The Gamecocks’ offense continued to roll in the second half, with Sellers tossing a 3-yard touchdown pass to Donovan Murph. South Carolina’s Hunt later added another 1-yard score in the third quarter after a long drive to extend the lead to 44-0.

Coastal Carolina’s lone points came early in the fourth quarter on a special teams mistake by the Gamecocks. Jameson Tucker blocked a punt and returned it 17 yards for a touchdown for the Chanticleers, making the score 44-7.

South Carolina closed out the scoring when Bradley Dunn ran for a 1-yard touchdown late in the fourth quarter following a 16-play, 85-yard drive, securing the 51-7 final score. The Gamecocks finished the game with 24 first downs and maintained possession for 33 minutes, 50 seconds.
