SCHSL Names Hudnal Assistant Commissioner for Middle School Athletics

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Dr. Lenard Hudnal Jr. has been appointed the South Carolina High School League Assistant Commissioner for Middle School Athletics, Commissioner Dr. Jerome Singleton announced. Hudnal’s appointment became effective July 1, 2025.

“Dr. Hudnal brings extensive knowledge about middle schools within the SCHSL membership,” Singleton said. “Having spent his entire 13-year teaching career in the middle school ranks, Dr. Hudnal fully understands the needs of our member middle schools, which will undoubtedly be an asset to the League office.”

In his new role, Hudnal will serve as the direct liaison for middle schools across the state and will assist with overseeing basketball and football.

“I am honored to join the South Carolina High School League as the new Assistant Commissioner for Middle School Athletics,” Hudnal said. “I look forward to working alongside our schools and coaches to strengthen the foundation of student-athletes, nurture young talent, and promote values that last well beyond the game.”

Hudnal joins the SCHSL after two years as a teacher at Crayton Middle School. His previous teaching experience includes Longleaf Middle School (2017–2022), Hartsville Middle School (2013–2017), and Darlington Middle School (2012–2013). Throughout his career, he has coached football and boys’ and girls’ basketball teams.

A Charleston, S.C., native and graduate of Burke High School, Hudnal holds a bachelor’s degree in physical education from South Carolina State University (2012), a master’s degree in exercise and sport science from Ohio University (2015), and a Doctor of Education from Northcentral University (2022). He is a South Carolina Teaching Fellows graduate and has twice been named Teacher of the Month at Hartsville Middle School.
