Tega Cay, SC — Exciting news for young athletes in the area! Tega Cay Elementary School has recently launched a youth pickleball club, led by volunteer coach Josh Lee, a Professional Pickleball Registry (PPR) Certified Coach. This 8-week clinic, organized in collaboration with the school’s PTO, is part of a broader effort to promote the sport among the youth community in Tega Cay and Fort Mill.
Pickleball, a fast-growing sport across the country, is being embraced for its low-impact nature, making it an ideal option for kids who are still developing physically. “Pickleball puts less strain on the joints and muscles compared to high-intensity sports like basketball, soccer, and football. It’s a fun way for families, especially kids, to stay active while improving their coordination, balance, and agility,” said Coach Lee.
The clinic has drawn enthusiastic participation, and as the final session approaches, the club is planning to host an end-of-year tournament at the outdoor courts of the Fort Mill YMCA at the Complex. Parents, students, and the local community are invited to come out and cheer for the participants, celebrating their progress and achievements over the course of the clinic.
The success of the program has also sparked discussions about expanding the initiative. Lee is in talks with Gold Hill Middle School to start a similar pickleball club during the spring season, bringing the sport to even more young players in the area.

In addition to the clinic, there will be a “School’s Out” pickleball camp on November 5th, and Tuesday afternoon clinics will be offered at the Fort Mill YMCA courts. These sessions aim to provide further opportunities for young players to stay engaged in the sport beyond the school program.
Pickleball is a sport for all ages, and Tega Cay is fostering a new generation of players who are discovering the joy of this dynamic and fast-paced game.
