Fort Mill Finishes 12th as Blythewood’s Caroline Hawkins Dominates for Second Consecutive Class 5A Girls Golf State Championship

Prosperity, SC (Tega Cay Sun) – The Fort Mill High School girls’ golf team secured a 12th-place finish in the South Carolina 5A State Championships. Mackenzie Finn and Sam Benton stood out as top performers for the Yellow Jackets, both carding a total of 170 strokes over the course of the two-day tournament, which resulted in them sharing the 26th place individually. Cayla Cappuzzo posted a score of 192, earning her a tied 49th place, while Claire Collins claimed 63rd place with a total score of 210, and Olivia Seifert finished 64th with a score of 212.

Nation Ford’s team finished in a shared 8th place overall, with notable individual performances from:
– T18. Vivian Harris, who scored 167
– T44. Sara McCaskill, posting a total of 182
– T48. Katie Griggs, with a score of 186
– T77. Piper Sabino, who recorded 188
– In 87th place, Hadley Mark, who posted a score of 226.

Caroline Hawkins, representing Blythewood High School, achieved her second consecutive Class 5A individual state championship at the Mid Carolina Club in Prosperity, SC. Hawkins displayed exceptional skill, finishing with an impressive 11-under-par 135, securing a commanding 14-shot victory over Olivia Pellerin from Mauldin High School.

On the opening day of the tournament, Hawkins shot a remarkable 68 on the par 73 course, establishing a 5-stroke lead over Pellerin and Grace Lindsey of Wando High School. Hawkins continued her stellar performance on the second day, improving by one stroke with a 6-under-par 67, while Pellerin posted a 76.

Dorman High School successfully defended their team state championship title with a total score of 649, while Chapin finished as the runner-up, trailing by a mere 4 strokes with a total score of 653.
