Gaffney, SC (Tega Cay Sun) – In a spectacular display of talent and coordination, Fort Mill High School (FMHS) emerged victorious at The Reservation Tournament of Champions held in Gaffney. The school’s band showcased their exceptional skills, clinching the Best Color Guard and Best Percussion in Class 5A titles.
Not stopping there, FMHS also secured the highest scores in the music, visual, and overall effect categories, further solidifying their dominance in the competition.
Out of the 17 bands that graced the stage, FMHS not only won Class 5A but also took home the coveted title of overall Grand Champion, boasting the highest score among all competitors.
The victory is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and passion of the students and instructors of Fort Mill High School’s band program.

Thomas Hyslip lives in Tega Cay with his wife and daughter. After 27 years in the U.S. Army and Federal Law Enforcement, he retired to pursue his passion for teaching. Tom is now an Assistant Professor of Instruction at the University of South Florida. In 2 short years he has won 10 awards from the South Carolina Press Association, including first place in column writing, education beat reporting and best podcast.
