Mr. William (Bill) Sannwald, 79, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2023, surrounded by family.
Born in Middletown, NY he was the son of the late William and Margaret Sannwald. He was predeceased by his sister, Kathleen Sannwald. He was a retired US Air Force Master Sergeant with over 22 years of service. He served in Vietnam at Nha Trang and Bien Hoa Air bases and earned the Vietnam Service Medal with 4 stars and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry Medal. He further received three Meritorious Service Medals, and a Commanders Trophy as the most valuable member in the unit. He was a graduate of St. Leo University, St Leo. Florida. After his military career, he was employed as a civilian at Shaw Air Force Base for ten years.
Bill was a former member of the Sumter, SC Lions Club, and St. James Lutheran Church. After relocating 12 years ago to Tega Cay, SC, he was an active member of Lake Wylie Lutheran Church. Bill enjoyed playing golf and visiting with many neighborhood and church friends. He loved a good NY-style pizza and making his famous meatballs for his family. His greatest joy was spending time with family sharing stories and playing various games. Bill was a quiet, caring man who appreciated meaningful conversations and was a friend to all.
He is survived by his loving wife Donna, children, and grandchildren. They include his daughter Mary Hood (Greg), granddaughters Regan and Peyton and grandson Ayden; daughter Karen McCormack (Chris); daughter JoAnn Beeman (Jason), granddaughter Emma and grandson Austen.
His Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 1, 2023, at Lake Wylie Lutheran Church at 1:00 pm with a reception to follow in the fellowship hall.
