York, SC – On March 6, 2024, the York County Crime Stoppers held their prestigious annual awards ceremony to honor the exceptional individuals who have significantly contributed to crime fighting efforts within the county. The event, which took place at the Moss Justice Center, showcased the dedication and hard work of law enforcement personnel and volunteers.
Detective Kierra Fayall of the York Police Department was named the Crime Stoppers Investigator of the Year, in recognition of her outstanding detective work and commitment to maintaining safety and security in the community. Investigator Dana Gatti of the Rock Hill Police Department received the Crime Stoppers Narcotics Investigator of the Year award for her exemplary efforts in combating drug-related offenses. Additionally, Fay Gibson was honored as the Crime Stoppers Board Member of the Year, highlighting her invaluable service and contributions to the board’s success.
Since its establishment in April of 2000, Crime Stoppers of York County has made significant strides in promoting public safety and crime prevention. To date, the program has received 6,306 tips, leading to 1,414 arrests. It has approved $90,980 in rewards and has been instrumental in recovering $796,887 worth of stolen property, seizing $27,939 in cash, and confiscating narcotics valued at $661,389. The total value of recovered property, including stolen goods, cash, and drugs, amounts to $1,486,215, underscoring the program’s profound impact on crime reduction in the county.
Crime Stoppers of York County was founded through a collaborative effort spearheaded by Sheriff Bruce Bryant, then Solicitor Tommy Pope, and then Rock Hill City Chief of Police Dave Fortson, appealing to Leadership York County, a program sponsored by the York County Regional Chamber. The initiative has grown into a successful 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, with a tip-line hosted in Columbia, SC, but serving all law enforcement agencies in York County. The program not only supports local agencies but has also extended its reach to assist in solving crimes in surrounding counties and occasionally across the United States.
