A study by the Charlotte Regional Business Alliance shows the Charlotte metro area is gaining 113 new residents every day, totally 41,163 new residents last year. The report includes 14 counties, 10 in North Carolina and 4 in South Carolina, including York County.
Predominantly, individuals are relocating from larger metropolitan areas in the Northeast and South, as well as smaller North Carolina cities such as Asheville and Winston-Salem. The fact that many are choosing the Charlotte Region over more costly areas implies that its lower cost of living is a significant factor for these newcomers. Interestingly, three out of the four metros contributing the most to the net in-migration into the Charlotte metro have a cost of living considerably higher than the national average.
