Winthrop University’s men’s soccer team travels to Blacksburg, Virginia, Wednesday, Oct. 21, to face Virginia Tech in its final regular-season nonconference matchup.
The 6 p.m. contest comes as the Eagles look to end a season-long four-game losing streak following Saturday’s 4-2 loss to Longwood. Winthrop enters the match with a 5-7-1 overall record and a 2-2 mark in Big South Conference play.
The Eagles previously showed their offensive potential in a 4-0 conference victory over Presbyterian, scoring four second-half goals behind a hat trick from Jorge Perez in a 15-minute span. Perez added a goal and an assist in Winthrop’s subsequent 3-2 loss to nationally ranked UNC Wilmington.
Perez and teammate Juma Baden lead the Eagles with eight goals apiece, ranking third in the Big South in total goals and goals per game.
Virginia Tech enters the matchup with a 7-5-1 record. The Hokies have won four consecutive meetings with Winthrop, including a 2-0 victory in Blacksburg in 2025. Virginia Tech also won the teams’ most recent matchup before that, defeating the Eagles 6-0 in October 2024.
Wednesday’s game marks Winthrop’s final nonconference contest before the Eagles conclude their regular season with two remaining Big South matchups.
The game will be played in Blacksburg at 6 p.m. Fans can watch the contest on ESPN+.
