AFGE says endorsed candidates understand the challenges facing working families
RIVERDALE, Ga. –– The American Federation of Government Employees today announced its endorsement of three candidates running to represent South Carolina in the midterm elections Nov. 3.
The newly endorsed candidates are Dr. Annie Andrews for U.S. Senate, Nancy Lacore for the U.S. House representing the state’s 1st Congressional District, and Jermaine Johnson for governor. All three advanced to the general election during the Democratic primary in June.
Andrews, a pediatrician and the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate, fights for working families, economic fairness for everyday workers and women’s reproductive rights. Lacore, the Democratic nominee in the 1st Congressional District, is a strong voice for working families and for restoring responsible leadership. Johnson, the Democratic nominee for governor, brings a back-to-basics approach focused on the working class and everyday South Carolinians.
“AFGE is proud to endorse Dr. Annie Andrews, Nancy Lacore, and Jermaine Johnson because they understand the challenges facing working families and the vital contributions federal employees make every day,” said AFGE District 5 National Vice President Tatishka Thomas.
“Dr. Andrews will be a strong advocate for federal workers and the services they provide. Nancy Lacore is committed to fighting for the values that AFGE members stand for, and Jermaine Johnson has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to supporting working families across South Carolina. AFGE members are proud to stand with these candidates and look forward to working with them to build a stronger future for South Carolina and its workforce,” she said.
AFGE previously endorsed Rep. Jim Clyburn for reelection to Congress representing South Carolina’s 6th Congressional District.
More than 43,000 federal employees live in South Carolina — caring for veterans, supporting the military, protecting our food supply, and making sure Social Security recipients get their benefits accurately and on time.
