At the newly opened Catawba Bend Preserve, York County’s elite distance runners faced off for ultimate local supremacy, delivering a masterclass in tactical racing and sheer determination at the 2026 Bob Jenkins York County Cross Country Championship. When the dust settled over the challenging 5,000-meter course, Nation Ford seized the boys’ team crown, while South Pointe’s Libba Faircloth and a dramatic tiebreaker stole the headlines in a historic girls’ showdown.

In the boys’ varsity race, Nation Ford put on a relentless display of pack running to capture the team championship with 49 points. Paced by strong finishes from Sparsh Vaghani (third in 16:10.9) and Alejandro Luna (seventh), the Falcons fended off a fierce challenge from runner-up Catawba Ridge (70 points) and third-place South Pointe (76 points).

Individually, Catawba Ridge senior Ryan Pierson set a blistering pace from the gun, capturing the individual boys’ title with a stellar time of 16:04.2. Pierson held off a charging Hunter Willis of South Pointe, who crossed just seconds later in 16:08.8.

The girls’ varsity race provided the most dramatic narrative of the day, culminating in a razor-thin team title deadlock. Nation Ford and Northwestern finished dead even with 61 points apiece. Ultimately, Nation Ford claimed the championship trophy via the tiebreaker, edging out the Trojans thanks to deeper finishes down the scoring line.

Individually, South Pointe’s Libba Faircloth authored the performance of the meet. The senior phenom dominated the field from start to finish, breaking the tape in an elite 18:17.1 to claim the girls’ individual crown by over 25 seconds ahead of York County Trailblazers’ Harmony Fuller (18:42.2). Northwestern was led by a stellar third-place run from Grace Harvey (18:52.6).

In the junior varsity divisions, Nation Ford continued their strong club showing by taking the boys’ JV team title behind individual winner Isaiah Moorman-King (17:43.5), while Fort Mill captured the girls’ JV team crown led by an exceptional performance from Lake Wylie’s Annalise Taylor (22:08.8).

With county bragging rights secured, area programs will now turn their focus toward the upcoming state qualifier stretches, carrying the momentum forged on the testing trails of Catawba Bend.
