Drivers navigating downtown Fort Mill will need to adjust their daily commutes through Friday, Oct. 16, as the Town of Fort Mill Utilities Department carries out urgent infrastructure repairs along North White Street.
Municipal officials issued an updated traffic advisory detailing key adjustments to active detours surrounding the work zone. While essential utility crews work to complete the project, local motorists are urged to exercise caution, plan ahead, and utilize designated secondary routes.
Updated Traffic and Detour Guidelines
-
Main Street Access: Drivers traveling onto N. White Street from Main Street will continue to be detoured north onto Old Nation Road.
-
Old Nation Road Adjustments: Both lanes of Old Nation Road are now open and accessible to general traffic. However, southbound drivers on Old Nation Road will only be permitted to turn left onto N. White Street; right-hand turns remain strictly prohibited for the duration of the project.
-
U.S. 21 / Peach Stand Area: Barricades are established at the intersection of N. White Street and U.S. 21. Through-traffic from this approach must detour via the Fort Mill Bypass or Harris Street. Local access remains open for residents living near Walter Elisha Park traveling along N. White Street toward U.S. 21.
Digital messaging boards, detour markers, and physical barricades have been positioned across the affected corridors. Town officials strongly encourage drivers to allow extra travel time or seek alternate routes whenever possible to prevent localized congestion.
