Fort Mill Dominates Spartanburg with Defensive Masterclass, Nation Ford Falls Short in High-Scoring Battle

In a masterclass of defensive execution and situational dominance, the Fort Mill Yellow Jackets dismantled Spartanburg in a commanding 31 – 7 victory on-the-road. Meanwhile, the Nation Ford Falcons showed incredible heart during a furious late-game rally, though they ultimately ran out of time in a 45 – 23 loss to Catawba Ridge.

Fort Mill’s Defense Sets the Tone

Fort Mill wasted no time establishing control, turning defensive takeaways into offensive momentum. After safety Keegan Heisler came down with an early interception, the tone was set for a suffocating defensive performance. Broden Mitcheson opened the scoring floodgates with a bruising 20-yard rushing touchdown in the first quarter, followed shortly by a booming 50-yard field goal from Noah Hardy that extended the lead.

Though Spartanburg managed to claw back with a score before halftime, the Yellow Jackets slammed the door shut in the second half. Quarterback Harper Love connected with Kieran McCormack for a crucial 4-yard touchdown pass just before the break, giving Fort Mill breathing room at 17 – 7.

The defense took over completely after intermission. Heisler added a fumble recovery to his stellar night, while Aiden Welch also pounced on a loose ball to stifle any potential Spartanburg comeback. Mitcheson struck again in the fourth quarter with a punishing 36-yard touchdown run, and Aiden Ohara capped off the night with a 4-yard scoring plunge. A late interception by Chase Fitzgerald sealed the 31 – 7 triumph, leaving no doubt as to which team controlled the trenches.

Nation Ford Fights to the Final Whistle

In their matchup against Catawba Ridge, Nation Ford faced an uphill battle from the opening kickoff. Down early, the Falcons found life in the first quarter when Logan Thames intercepted a pass, setting up a 10-yard rushing touchdown by Banks Demby.

Despite falling behind 42 – 10 heading into the final frame, Nation Ford refused to quit. Quarterback Ben Falkner orchestrated an explosive aerial assault in the fourth quarter, connecting with Graham Lee for two breathtaking touchdowns — first on a 40-yard strike and later on an 80-yard catch-and-run that electrified the visiting sideline. Micah Enns also chipped in with a 43-yard field goal, but the early deficit proved too steep to overcome in a 45 – 23 final.

Area Score Wrap-Up

  • Clover 56, Lake Wylie 3: Clover put on an offensive clinic, exploding for 21 points in the third quarter alone to run away with a dominant 53-point victory.

  • South Pointe 35, Indian Land 20: Indian Land fought valiantly in the opening quarter, but South Pointe’s balanced attack and steady defensive pressure proved too much to overcome in a 15-point decision.
