WAXHAW, N.C. – Tap dance is passed forward, person to person, through rhythm, shared vocabulary, mentorship, and the experience of learning in a room with other dancers. On Saturday, February 6, 2027, Taplife Hero Foundation will bring that experience to Waxhaw with the third annual LIT Tap Dance Experience at the Waxhaw Woman’s Club.
The full day event is designed around more than taking classes. LIT brings dancers, teachers, and families together around the continued development and preservation of tap dance. This original American art form has a history built on cultural exchange, individual voice, and generations of artists sharing their knowledge with the dancers who come after them.
For Taplife Hero Foundation, bringing LIT to communities such as Waxhaw is part of a larger investment in access, mentorship, and the future of tap dance and tap dance education. The goal is to create opportunities for dancers to train, connect, and experience tap as a living tradition rather than something that exists only on stage or in history.
The Waxhaw event will welcome participants from North Carolina, South Carolina, and the surrounding region for a day of education, community, and performance. But LIT is not intended only for students and teachers. A portion of the evening is open to the public, where participants and guests watch historical and contemporary tap dance footage before the day culminates in the LIT Talent Showcase, an evening of live tap dance performance that is also open to the public.
LIT Tap Dance Experience – Waxhaw will take place Saturday, February 6, 2027, from 9:45 a.m. to 8:15 p.m. at the Waxhaw Woman’s Club, 200 E South Main St., Waxhaw, NC 28173.

Tom is now an Associate Professor of Instruction at the University of South Florida.
