FORT MILL, S.C. — FamilySearch, the world’s largest free family history organization and website, will be coming to the York County Library’s annual Genealogy & Family History Expo on Friday, October 23 from 6:00-8:00 and Saturday, October 24, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Courtyard by Marriott in Fort Mill.
FamilySearch, which is operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, is one of several sponsors from whom attendees can obtain assistance and aims to help individuals discover more about their family, and in turn, more about themselves. According to its website, FamilySearch’s overall purpose is to “…enable inspiring journeys that bring joy to all people as they discover, gather, and connect their family—past, present, and future.”
This free event will offer attendees an opportunity to learn from professional genealogists, connect with local and regional genealogy organizations, and discover resources to help them learn more about their families. “FamilySearch allows me to be a detective,” says Sandra Morris, a FamilySearch Center coordinator. “At a FamilySearch Center we have the tools, techniques and free access to premium websites that help me reach my goals of discovering as many family members as I can.”
The expo will feature 16 informative presentations by professional genealogists covering a variety of topics related to genealogy and family history. Registered visitors will also have the opportunity to attend one of three hands-on workshops on Friday evening as well as visit exhibitors and vendors representing local and regional genealogical societies throughout the conference on Saturday.
A complimentary catered luncheon will be provided, and attendees can enter to win a variety of door prizes, including DNA testing kits, free subscriptions to genealogy websites and software, genealogy books and more. A selection of free genealogical resources and gifts will also be available.
The event is open to adults age 18 and older. Registration is required and will open Thursday, October 1, 2026, at 9 a.m on the York County Library website.
