Earlier in September, Catawba Ridge High School wrestling carved its name into the history books at Ola High School.
By the time the final whistles echoed across the gymnasium at the Super 32 Qualifier Tournament, two Copperheads stood at the apex of their respective brackets — delivering a historic double-gold performance that punches their direct tickets to the nation’s premier high school tournament.
At 126 pounds, Taylon Winker set the tone for Catawba Ridge with a clinical, tactical victory over Trinity’s Stephen Cross. Controlling both the hand fight and the tempo, Winker secured a hard-fought 1st place finish to seal his place at the top of the podium.
Not to be outdone in the upper weight classes, Tristan Mobley dominant display at 190 pounds capped off the historic day. Mobley executed with composure and raw power, overpowering his rival to capture 1st place and complete the tournament sweep for the Copperhead standouts.
By seizing top honors in Georgia, both Winker and Mobley earned automatic early entry into the prestigious Super 32 Challenge in Greensboro, North Carolina — scheduled for October 24–25.
