A big orange cat named Bandit and a young stray dog named Jubilee are this week’s featured adoptable pets at the Humane Society of York County, the nonprofit rescue on Regent Parkway in Fort Mill.
The shelter has placed 508 animals so far in 2026, including 112 dogs and 396 cats, according to its weekly update. Bandit and Jubilee are among the animals still waiting.
Bandit
Bandit weighed in at 22.6 pounds during a staff contest to guess his weight, and the shelter is looking for an adopter willing to help him slim down through play and regular activity. Volunteers describe him as affectionate and eager to romp.
He has had a rough run. Bandit has been adopted three times and returned three times, according to the shelter, and staff said what he needs most now is consistency. He would do best as the center of attention in his new home.
The shelter estimates Bandit’s age at 4 years, 10 months. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and tested. Visitors can meet him in the shelter’s Big Cat Room.
Jubilee
Jubilee came to the shelter as a stray, and staff know little about her life before she arrived. She is about 7 months old and expected to reach 40 to 45 pounds when fully grown.
Shelter volunteers describe her as sensitive and timid at first, though she has been gaining confidence slowly. She becomes noticeably more comfortable with another dog around, which may make her a good match for a household that already has a canine companion. The shelter is asking for an adopter, couple or family willing to give her time to build trust.
Jubilee is spayed, vaccinated, tested and microchipped.
Other Ways To Help
People who are not ready to adopt can still support the rescue. The shelter’s thrift shop, Pawsibilities, operates at 2144 Carolina Place in Fort Mill and accepts donations of new and gently used items. The organization also sells items through an eBay store and is preparing a holiday shop, which is taking holiday item donations now.
Volunteers are needed at the shelter, at the thrift shop and as foster caregivers. The shelter also welcomes offsite help, including Eagle Scout projects, food and supply drives and volunteers willing to pick up clean laundry to dry, fold and return. Laundry detergent and bleach top its current list of needed supplies.
