Fort Mill Cross Country Girls Take Third And Boys Fifth At Eye Opener

Fort Mill High School’s girls cross country team finished third and the boys placed fifth in the International races at the 2026 Eye Opener meet in Spartanburg, and the junior varsity girls won their division by a single point.

The meet was held at the Roger Milliken Center, with results posted for Saturday, Sept. 5. Fort Mill competed in the International boys and girls races, which run alongside the meet’s Championship division, and in both junior varsity races. The school entered 82 runners across the four races.

Girls take third in International race

The Fort Mill girls finished third out of 41 teams in the International race with 198 points, behind North Lincoln with 87 and Chapin with 152.

Sophomore Lauren Allen led the way, finishing 25th overall in 19 minutes, 52.2 seconds. Senior Kaylee Rovenstine came through two spots later in 20:01.2, and senior Mia Zook followed in 20:04.4. Junior Bailey Nolin ran 20:36.9 for the fourth scoring spot and sophomore Isabel Morstad closed the group in 21:17.7.

Fort Mill’s five scorers finished within 1 minute, 25.5 seconds of one another. Senior Rachel Vinson ran 21:35.7 and eighth grader Emerson Beightol ran 21:51.3 to round out the varsity seven.

Haley and Ware pace the boys to fifth

The Fort Mill boys took fifth in the International race with 261 points in a field of 45 teams. Christ School won with 27, followed by Lexington with 114, J.L. Mann with 154 and Mauldin with 243.

Senior Hudson Haley was the first Fort Mill runner across the line, placing 21st overall in 16:11.2. Junior Owen Ware finished 30th in 16:22.1. Senior Ben Madej ran 16:59.4, freshman Ian Zook ran 17:14.0 and sophomore Jacob Audley completed the scoring in 17:19.6, giving the team a spread of 1:08.4.

Junior Greyson Pogalz (17:38.1) and sophomore Liam Doheny (17:40.7) also ran for the varsity seven. Fort Mill put 11 boys under 19 minutes.

JV girls win by a point

The junior varsity girls won their race with 59 points, one better than Lexington’s 60. Chapin was third with 73.

Seventh grader Sloane Brunelli finished third overall in 22:59.7 and junior Chloe Henson was fourth in 23:02.2. Eighth grader Harper Grant took 10th in 23:52.7, freshman London Moriarty was 19th in 24:22.9, and junior Penelope Knight closed the scoring in 30th at 24:52.4. Eighth grader Emma Doheny (24:56.2) and junior Avery Marshburn (25:00.0) finished within eight seconds of Knight, and either would have covered the one point margin had a teammate faltered.

The junior varsity boys were second with 93 points behind Lexington, which packed its top five into the first seven finishers and scored 19. Freshman Nolan Sova was ninth in 18:19.1 and senior Reeves Parker was 10th in 18:32.7. Junior Quinlan O’Toole ran 19:07.9, freshman River Mullet ran 19:17.2 and senior Ryan Halligan ran 20:10.9.

Fort Mill was not the only local program on the course. Catawba Ridge placed 12th in the International boys race and Nation Ford placed 15th, while South Pointe took 16th, Clover 31st and Lake Wylie 37th.
