The Sonic Drive In at 3039 Highway 160 in Fort Mill, just outside the Tega Cay city limits, has closed, and the property has been sealed off and listed for sale.
Plywood covered the windows along the front of the building Sunday. Orange plastic fencing ran across the parking lot, and a No Trespassing sign hung from the fencing near the accessible parking space. A vinyl banner mounted above the boarded windows carries the Sonic logo and reads, “Thank you for your patronage. Unfortunately we are closed.” The banner directs customers to other Sonic restaurants in Rock Hill, York and Lancaster.
A For Sale or Lease sign is posted a few feet away on the same wall, listing Greg DeBey and the phone number 936.661.1753.
Property listed
The For Sale or Lease sign indicates the site itself is now on the market. Whether the building will be reused by another restaurant or demolished for redevelopment is unknown. The Highway 160 corridor has seen steady commercial turnover in recent years as traffic counts and rooftops have climbed.
The three remaining Sonic locations named on the banner are in Rock Hill, York and Lancaster. Readers with information about the closing or the future of the property can contact the newsroom.
Reporting based on observation and photographs taken at 3039 Highway 160, Fort Mill, on Sunday, Aug. 16, 2026, and on the signage posted at the site.
