Miracle Park, Rock Hill’s accessible park for people of all abilities, debuted “Sponsor Trees,” two sculptures by Winthrop students, this June.
Spearheaded by Shaun Cassidy, a fine arts professor at the university, several students were tasked with designing a public art piece that thanked the park’s donors.
“The challenge for us was thinking of how we could make an interesting 3D object while it could also function as donor recognition,” Cassidy said.
The sculptures took two semesters to develop and demonstrated the average public art process to students, including brainstorming, budgeting, meeting with clients and more.
Participating fine arts students included Forest Rain, Gracelynn Mixon, Jesse Gross, Ken Stiles, Maria Emery, Oliver Bartow, Samuel Pach and Zoe Gumangan.
