Carowinds’ signature roller coaster, Fury 325, has reopened after completing repairs and passing a state safety inspection following a two-week closure.
The coaster was taken out of service on July 7 after routine maintenance inspections identified a foundation issue near one of the ride’s support columns. Carowinds officials said the problem involved a slight change in the foundation surrounding the support structure.
State inspectors conducted a comprehensive reinspection before issuing a new certificate of operation. Carowinds confirmed the ride reopened after Tuesday’s inspection and resumed service to guests.
Park officials noted that foundation structures can shift over time due to environmental, mechanical and geological conditions and emphasized their ongoing commitment to ride safety.
The reopening comes three years after Fury 325 underwent extensive repairs following a crack discovered in one of its steel support beams. State investigators later determined the damage resulted from metal fatigue. After repairs, the coaster completed hundreds of successful test cycles before returning to operation.
The coaster is now once again welcoming riders following state approval and completion of all required repairs.
