If you are heading out for the Fourth of July weekend, here is something worth knowing before you pull into a gas station: your Amazon Prime membership may save you a significant amount of money at the pump, but only if you act before Sunday.
Amazon Prime members can save 50 cents per gallon on one fuel purchase from July 2 through July 5 at more than 7,500 bp, Amoco, and participating AM-PM and Thorntons locations across the United States. That promotion starts today, so if you are reading this on your way out the door for a cookout or road trip this holiday weekend, this one is for you.
With the national gas price average currently sitting around $3.85 per gallon, the savings add up quickly. Fill up a 15-gallon tank and you save $7.50 on a single stop. Fill up a larger truck or SUV and you save even more, all for setting up an account connection that takes about two minutes.
How the Deal Works
To redeem the discount, Prime members must first link their Amazon account to Earnify, which is BP’s loyalty program. Once linked, you can enter your phone number at the pump of any participating gas station, use the Earnify app, or use the payment method linked to the Amazon account you used to sign up.
Earnify is a free program and there is no fee to create an account. You can download the Earnify app on your phone, which also makes it easy to locate participating stations near you before you leave home.
There is no minimum or maximum number of gallons required to receive the discount. Fill up however much you need and the 50 cents per gallon comes off automatically.
Prime members who have added a family member to their account via Amazon Family can apply the limited-time promotion to two fuel transactions, but each member must have their own Earnify account and each can make one fuel purchase under the promotion. So if you and your spouse both have linked Earnify accounts, you can each take advantage of the deal once.
What the Discount Actually Consists Of
The 50 cents per gallon is not all coming from Amazon directly. The total discount includes Earnify’s standard 5-cent discount, Amazon’s 5-cent Prime discount, and a 40-cent promotional bonus for this limited-time Fourth of July event. Once the holiday weekend ends and the promotional bonus expires, the ongoing savings drops back to 10 cents per gallon for Prime members year-round.
The Year-Round Benefit You May Not Know About
This is actually where the story gets more interesting for everyday drivers. Most Amazon Prime members have no idea that their membership already includes a gas discount that runs every single day of the year.
Amazon added fuel savings of 10 cents per gallon at participating bp, Amoco, AM-PM, and Thorntons stations as a permanent Prime membership benefit in October 2024. If you fill up once a week and average 15 gallons per fill, that is $1.50 in savings per visit, or roughly $78 per year just from your existing Prime membership, with no extra steps beyond linking your account to Earnify once.
With Amazon Family, households can double the savings across two transactions, meaning couples who link separate Earnify accounts can both apply the 10-cent discount on their regular fill-ups throughout the year.
A Few Things to Keep in Mind
The holiday weekend deal is one-time use per qualifying account. Once you have used it, the discount reverts to the standard 10 cents per gallon for the rest of the year.
Even if there is not a participating location near your home, if you are planning a road trip over the holiday weekend, it is worth checking the Earnify app for any participating stations along your route. With more than 7,500 locations nationwide, there is a reasonable chance one falls on your path.
Steps to Get Set Up Right Now
Here is all you need to do to take advantage of this before Sunday:
Open your Amazon app or go to amazon.com and search for “Earnify” or navigate to the Prime fuel benefits page. Link your Prime account to a new or existing Earnify account. Download the free Earnify app on your phone to easily find nearby participating stations. At the pump, enter your linked phone number or open the Earnify app, select your location and pump number, and the discount applies automatically.
The whole setup takes about two minutes and the savings are immediate.
As Amazon Vice President Carmen Nestares put it, “Summer is a time for making memories, and Prime is here to make the entertaining more affordable.” With gas prices still elevated heading into the holiday weekend, this is one of those rare moments where a benefit you may have been paying for all along actually delivers real money back in your pocket at exactly the right time.
Happy Fourth of July, Tega Cay. Stay safe on the roads, and I will see you next week!
