A video circulating on social media this week shows a wakeboarder being pulled across Lake Wylie not by a boat but by an airplane, an unusual sight that caught the attention of people on and around the water.
The video was shared on Facebook by Jerry Rush Miller, who said the wakeboarder in the footage is his son. Miller wrote that boaters and others on Lake Wylie who thought they saw someone wakeboarding behind an airplane that day were not mistaken.
“My crazy son and his friend have no sense,” Miller wrote in his post, adding a touch of humor to the unusual scene.
Lake Wylie, which straddles the border between York County and Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, is a popular spot for boating, fishing and water sports throughout the warmer months. Wakeboarding behind boats is a common activity on the lake, but pairing the sport with a low flying airplane is far from typical.
It is not clear from the post exactly where on the lake the video was recorded or what type of aircraft was used to tow the wakeboarder. The Tega Cay Sun has reached out for additional details and will update this story if more information becomes available.
