Mallory Dittmer Responds to Resolution for Congressional Redistricting in South Carolina

Mallory Dittmer, Democratic Congressional candidate for South Carolina’s 5th District, responded today to the resolution approved by the South Carolina House of Representatives that opens the door to mid-census redistricting.  The vote, which fell along party lines, follows deliberate pressure from the White House to redraw maps for Republican gain ahead of the 2026 midterms.

“It is unconscionable to subject the people of South Carolina to the upheaval and chaos of redistricting mere weeks out from primary elections,” Dittmer said. “This plan, aimed entirely at diluting the strength of Democratic voters in an already heavily gerrymandered state, seeks to further harm minority voters, divide communities that deserve representation, and cause widespread confusion and apathy across the state.”

Dittmer continued “At a time when our country desperately needs to mend our broken, hyper-partisan politics, these developments widen the divisions between us and add to the vitriol and negativity that have poisoned our national dialogue.”

“Party differences have become dangerous fault lines that divide our families and cripple our national government. I’m running for Congress to change that, to help usher in a new era of bipartisan collaboration. I will advocate for independent redistricting and an end to partisan gerrymandering nationwide. I’ll work to restore faith in our electoral system, limit outside influence and expand voter access.”

“In the meantime I urge South Carolinians across the state to register to vote, to mobilize in your communities and get involved in elections at all levels from national contests to local school board races. The deadline to register to vote in the June 9 primary is May 10 – make sure your vote is counted!  As Senator Warnock of Georgia said last week, ‘The answer to an assault on democracy is more democracy.’  That could not be more relevant or true at this moment!”
