For the first time in more than half a decade, the Nation Ford boys lacrosse team will not see the second round of the postseason.
In a defensive battle Monday night fraught with penalties, the No. 4 seed Greenville Red Raiders secured a 7-5 victory over the No. 5 seed Nation Ford Falcons in the opening round of the SCHSL Class 5A-D2 state tournament. The loss marks the first time in five years that the Falcons have been eliminated in the first round of the playoffs.
Greenville’s victory sets up a high-stakes quarterfinal matchup this Friday, May 1. The Red Raiders will travel to Fort Mill to face the top-seeded Yellow Jackets, who earned a first-round bye.

While the boys’ season comes to an end, the Nation Ford girls team begins its quest for a title tonight.
The Falcons will host T.L. Hanna in a first-round matchup. The winner of tonight’s contest will advance to the second round this Saturday to face cross-town rival and No. 1 seed Fort Mill.

The 5A-D2 boys’ state championship game is scheduled for May 8, following the Upper State championship on May 4.
