A Sunday evening collision on a major York thoroughfare has resulted in the death of a bicyclist, according to reports from the South Carolina Highway Patrol and per reporting by WCNC.
The incident occurred late Sunday night on Alexander Love Highway, near the intersection of Blessed Hope Road. Highway Patrol investigators state that the driver of a sedan was traveling westbound on the highway when the accident took place.
At the same time, a bicyclist was traveling eastbound along the roadway. Preliminary evidence suggests the collision occurred when the bicyclist attempted to execute a turn across the highway and was struck by the oncoming sedan.
The bicyclist, whose identity has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the sedan was reportedly uninjured.
Alexander Love Highway saw temporary closures Sunday night as reconstruction teams worked to process the scene. The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate the specific circumstances of the crash, and no charges have been announced at this time.
