It was a banner night for Fort Mill athletics as the Yellow Jackets secured decisive conference victories over Rock Hill on Friday, highlighted by a shutout on the soccer pitch and a powerful display on the softball diamond.
Yellow Jackets Soccer Stifles Bearcats
The Fort Mill boys’ varsity soccer team relied on a balanced attack and a suffocating defense to blank Rock Hill 2-0. The Yellow Jackets set the tone early with a goal in the first half and doubled their advantage after the break. Senior leadership proved pivotal, as Chase Fandel and Juan Jose Gomez each found the back of the net to secure the conference win. Gomez also contributed an assist, factoring into both scores for the Jackets.
On the girls’ side, Fort Mill edged out the Bearcats in a 3-2 thriller on the road, completing the soccer sweep over their regional rivals.
Softball Powers Past Rock Hill
The varsity softball squad continued the winning trend at home, defeating Rock Hill 5-1. The Yellow Jackets’ offense was sparked by Mallory Moore, who turned in a perfect 3-for-3 performance at the plate. Brooke Rosario added a spark of power with a home run, while the team’s aggressive baserunning—totaling seven stolen bases—kept the Bearcats’ defense under constant pressure.
On the mound, Haley Rogers earned the win, surrendered only one run over four innings of work. E. Hildebrand provided three innings of flawless relief, striking out five to slam the door on any hopes of a Rock Hill comeback. Earlier in the day, the JV softball team set the pace with a dominant 14-0 shutout.
Baseball Falls in Tight Non-Conference Battle
In the only blemish on the night for the Yellow Jackets, the varsity baseball team dropped a narrow 2-1 decision to Pro Stock Royals Academy. Despite a sharp defensive showing and holding the visitors scoreless through four innings, a two-run fifth by the Royals proved to be the difference. Fort Mill’s late-inning rally fell just short, as they managed only one run on eight hits.
