It’s spring time and high school sports are in full swing across York County, and today is a big day of high-stakes matchups highlighted by an across-town rivalry on the lacrosse field.
The Fort Mill High School Yellow Jackets and the Nation Ford High School Falcons are set for a double-header showdown in lacrosse. The boys’ varsity squads will face off at Fort Mill’s Bob Jones Stadium, with a scheduled 7:30 p.m. start. Meanwhile, the girls’ varsity teams will battle at Nation Ford, with opening face-off set for 7:00 p.m.
Both programs have long histories of dominance in South Carolina lacrosse as well as an often heated rivalry, and tonight’s region clashes are expected to have significant implications for playoff seeding as the regular season enters its final stretch.
Yellow Jackets on the Road and at Home
Beyond the rivalry on the turf, Fort Mill High’s baseball and soccer teams are also in action:
-
Baseball: The Yellow Jackets’ varsity baseball team travels to Rock Hill to take on Northwestern High School. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Fort Mill looks to maintain its momentum in a tough Region 3-AAAAA race.
-
Soccer: At the Munn Road pitch, the Fort Mill boys’ varsity soccer team hosts Catawba Ridge in a non-region battle of local heavyweights starting at 7:00 p.m.
-
Softball: The Yellow Jackets varsity softball team remains at home for a 6:00 p.m. matchup against a non-conference opponent.
Copperheads Keep the Pace
Down the road at Catawba Ridge High School, the Copperheads are managing a busy Monday of their own. While their soccer team visits Fort Mill, the Copperhead baseball team stays home to host Indian Land High School at 7:15 p.m. Additionally, the Catawba Ridge lacrosse programs are engaged in a home-and-away series with Clover High School, with the girls playing at home and the boys traveling to Clover.
