Jackets Lacrosse Doubleheader: Fort Mill Battles for Regional Supremacy, Interstate Pride

It is a big day on the turf for Yellow Jacket lacrosse, as both the boys’ and girls’ varsity squads prepare for high-stakes matchups this evening. The boys will defend their home field in a clash of titans against Clover, while the girls head across the state line for a tough non-conference test against Charlotte Latin.

Boys Lacrosse: A Battle for the Top Spot

Clover Blue Eagles (7-1) at Fort Mill Yellow Jackets (8-1)

7:30 PM @ Fort Mill High School

Tonight for what is arguably the biggest game of the season so far for Fort Mill boys lacrosse. Both the Yellow Jackets and the Blue Eagles enter the contest with unblemished 3-0 region records, meaning the winner will take sole possession of first place in the conference. Fort Mill brings a high-powered, balanced attack led by Cam Wilcox (17 goals) and playmaker Carson Maloney (17 assists). However, the Jackets’ true strength has been their stifling defense; they are allowing only 4.2 goals per game, anchored by goalkeeper Sean Sholtis, who has already racked up 66 saves this season. They face a Clover team that prefers a track meet. The Blue Eagles are averaging nearly 16 goals per game, fueled by the explosive Aiden Hawkins, who has tallied a staggering 48 goals in just eight games.

Key Matchup: Fort Mill’s ground-ball specialist Xander Jantzen (67 GBs) vs. Clover’s Jake Nicely (47 GBs). Winning the possession battle in the middle of the field will be the deciding factor in slowing down Clover’s fast-break offense.

Girls Lacrosse: Crossing the Border

Fort Mill Yellow Jackets (4-3) at Charlotte Latin Hawks (4-4)

5:30 PM @ Charlotte Latin

While the boys play at home, the Fort Mill girls’ team travels to Charlotte for a classic interstate showdown. The Yellow Jackets are looking to find their rhythm outside of league play, where they remain a perfect 3-0. Fort Mill will rely on the offensive chemistry of Clare Roland and Rylee Raiter to pierce a Charlotte Latin defense that has been battle-tested against a difficult North Carolina schedule. The Hawks are led by Molly McMahan (9 goals) and a physical presence in the midfield from Addie Rhodes. The Jackets will need a big performance in the net from Ava Disher and Thea Weinacht Keppler to neutralize a Latin squad that averages over 10 goals per game. A win today would provide a significant momentum boost as Fort Mill prepares for the final stretch of the regular season.
