Yellow Jackets Split Results in Busy Wednesday Slate, Wednesday Recap

The Fort Mill Yellow Jackets saw a night of mixed results Wednesday, highlighted by a dominant offensive display on the lacrosse field and a powerhouse performance on the diamond.

Girls Lacrosse: Fort Mill Cruises Past Clover

The Fort Mill varsity girls lacrosse team put on an offensive clinic Wednesday night, routing conference rival Clover 17-7. The Yellow Jackets took control early and never looked back, effectively neutralizing the Eagles’ defense to secure the home victory.

Earlier in the evening, the junior varsity girls’ squad nearly pulled off a comeback but fell just short in a 5-4 defensive battle against Clover.

Baseball: Varsity Bats Explode for 12 Runs

The Fort Mill varsity baseball team made quick work of Rock Hill, coasting to a 12-2 victory. The Yellow Jackets’ lineup found gaps early and often, providing more than enough run support to secure the win.

The result provided a measure of revenge for the program after the junior varsity baseball team was shut out by Rock Hill 4-0 in the preliminary matchup.

Softball: Providence Day Stifles Fort Mill Bats

On the softball diamond, Fort Mill struggled to find its rhythm in a 4-1 non-conference loss to Providence Day.

Providence Day pitcher Rachel Lyons was the story of the game, tossing a complete-game gem. Lyons allowed only two hits and one unearned run over seven innings, striking out 12 Yellow Jacket batters.

Fort Mill’s lone run came in the second inning, but the offense couldn’t solve Lyons further. Mallory Moore and K. Cullings provided the only hits for the Jackets. E. Hildebrand pitched a solid six innings for Fort Mill, allowing just one earned run, but three defensive errors hampered the Yellow Jackets’ effort. Providence Day was led by Rachel Lyons and Olivia Hartsell, who both collected multiple hits in the win.

Nation Ford: Tough Road Trip to Ardrey Kell

It was a difficult night on the turf for the Falcons as they traveled across the state line. The Nation Ford varsity boys lacrosse team fell 17-7 to a potent Ardrey Kell offense. The JV boys lacrosse team also faced a tough challenge, dropping their contest 12-5.

In baseball, the JV Falcons visited Indian Land, though scores for that matchup were not immediately available at the time of reporting.

Catawba Ridge: Extra-Inning Heartbreak

The Catawba Ridge JV softball team engaged in a marathon battle against Gray Collegiate Academy. In a game that went into an eighth inning, the Copperheads ultimately fell 7-6 in a back-and-forth affair that saw both offenses trading blows late into the evening.
